Will users see the survey multiple times?
No! Every time the invitation is shown, the systen places a ‘cookie’ in the user´s browser. This cookie registers the user’s response whether this is to participate or not to participate in the survey.
After the response has been registered, the user will be ’quarantined’ so that no invitations will be shown to this person/computer within the quarantine period.
Read about the quarantine rules in detail here.
This system has proven to be incredibly effective in terms of avoiding user-fatigue.
You also control the frequency of how often you want to invite users to the survey.
Many websites are surveying a high percentage of their visitors. You can do that as well, but without being afraid to hassle your visitors – because we respect a ‘No, thanks’.
UserReport keeps track of those users who don’t want to participate in the survey. We do this using a mix of different browser and cookie technologies.
If a user has rejected to participate in the survey on any website using UserReport, he or she will NOT be invited to participate in another survey for at given period of time. The same goes for users who has already completed the survey.
By respecting the users’ choice in the first place, it is our experience that they will reward us with higher response rates in the long run.
Treat the users as you want to be treated yourself – that’s the filosophy of UserReport.
Installing UserReport script on website
How to install the UserReport script on your website
In order for UserReport to work on your website you must install the small UserReport JavaScript.
When you add your website to your UserReport account, you get a UserReport script that is unique to your website.
The script will be send to you by e-mail automatically but you can also find the script in the “settings” menu under “website details” at your UserReport account.
The UserReport script looks something like this:
<script type="text/javascript">
var _urq = _urq || [];
_urq.push(['initSite', '2abf15ce-d983-4c79-a2e9-a8073924d6xx']);
(function() {
var ur = document.createElement('script'); ur.type = 'text/javascript'; ur.async = true;
ur.src = 'http://sdscdn.userreport.com/userreport.js';
var s = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(ur, s);
})();
</script>
You will have to paste the script into the template of every page on your site right above the html </HEAD> tag. It is very simple, if you know how to work with HTML and templating. On most website you just have to paste the script into one single template in order for the script to appear on all pages of the website.
If you already have installed Google Analytics on your website, you will know how to handle this task. The Javascript from UserReport is usually installed in the exact same way and place as the Google Analytics script.
Let us presume your website looks something like this:
<html>
<head>
<title>Title of my website</title>
</head>
<body>
Content of my website
</body>
</html>
After inserting the UserReport script it should look like this:
<html>
<head>
<title>Title of my website</title>
<script type="text/javascript">
var _urq = _urq || [];
_urq.push(['initSite', '2abf15ce-d983-4c79-a2e9-a8073924d6xx']);
(function() {
var ur = document.createElement('script'); ur.type = 'text/javascript'; ur.async = true;
ur.src = 'http://sdscdn.userreport.com/userreport.js';
var s = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(ur, s);
})();
</script>
</head>
<body>
Content of my website
</body>
</html>
It is important to add the script to all pages of your website. If you are using templates or “includes” in your webdesign, it is recommended that the script is added in this template.
Note: If you are note able to place the UserReport script in the <HEAD> section of the website, you may place it in the <BODY> section instead.
Test it: It’s very easy to test if your implementation works! Simply put ?__urp=test_invite after your website URL in the browser – like http://www.mywebsite.com/?__urp=test_invite
This will open your website and force the survey to appear for testing purposes – if you have implemented the script correctly. Please note that the survey runs in demo-mode when forcing it to appear using this method. This means that answer won’t be saved.
Is UserReport really 100% free?
YES – UserReport is currently 100% free for anyone to use. However, we are planning a premium version, which will contain additional features at a cost. But all current features are free and will remain so.
But, how does UserReport make money right now?
UserReport offers paid consultant services helping select clients setting up UserReport and doing advanced analysis using data from both UserReport and Google Analytics.
UserReport is also working on other products in select markets, offered to select partners. These include advanced online market research tools which are the current corner stone in our monetization.
What is the Google Analytics integration?
The integration between Google Analytics and UserReport is a powerful tool that lets you see your most important Google Analytics reports in your UserReport account. This makes it easy to check both your UserReport data and Google Analytics data in just one place.

But that’s not quite it – UserReport lets you combine the results from your online survey with your Google Analytics data. This enables you to create amazing reports on the different conversion rates of men and women, the difference in bounce rate between young and old visitors – actually you can filter your Google Analytics data by any of the questions that you are asking in your online survey from UserReport.

How to edit the online survey?
The UserReport online survey contains of a number of default questions that should be relevant for most website owners to get answers to.
The default questions include usability questions (opinion questions about your website) and demographic questions (personal questions about gender, age, income etc.)
However, you are able to add as many additional questions to the survey as you like and you may also disable most of the default questions if you find them irrelevant.
To edit or add questions to your survey, simply go to “settings” –> “survey” –> “edit survey questions”. This opens the survey editor, where you can edit your online survey.

Learn how to add question to the survey here.
How to preview my online survey?
You can preview your online survey from either the survey editor or directly on your website. You can preview from the survey editor at any time – but only directly on your website if you have installed the UserReport script.
Preview in survey editor
Open the survey editor by navigation to “settings” –> “Survey” –> “Edit survey questions”
Once in the survey editor, simply press the “preview survey” button at the upper right hand corner of the editor.

Choose the live version if you want to see the survey the way your users will experience it. Do to the randomization of question each user will be asked a maximum of 20 question.
Choose the full version if you want to see all the questions in one survey experience.
Preview survey on your website
To force the survey to appear on your website, simply put ?__urp=test_invite after your website URL in the browser – like http://www.mywebsite.com/?__urp=test_invite
This will open your website and force the survey to appear for testing purposes – if you have implemented the script correctly. Please note that the survey runs in demo-mode when forcing it to appear using this method. This means that answer won’t be saved.
Please note: Even though you installed the UserReport script on your website you may not be able make the survey appear on your own website by just visiting the website. The reason for this may be that you are not inviting all visitors to take the survey but it’s more likely, that you are in a “quarantine” and therefore don’t get invited to participate in your own survey.
Who pays for the prizes in the survey?
UserReport does! You don’t have to do anything.
To encourage people to participate in the UserReport survey on your website, all respondents are invited to participate in a monthly prize draw conducted by UserReport.
By the end of the survey the respondant is asked if he/she wants to participate in the price draw as a token of appreciation for the time spent taking the survey.
It’s optional for the respondant to participate and UserReport contacts the winners directly, carries the cost of the prizes and takes care of all handling. The prizes include gift cards and the like.
Is UserReport available in my language?
UserReport currently supports more than 30 different languages, so we most likely support your language as well.
This means that the online survey and the feedback forum has been translated into many different languages, so you are able to use UserReport in most parts of the world. See the full list of supported languages here.
In order to use the online survey and feedback forum in your language, you have to choose your language from the list, when you add your website to your account.

If your website comes in different languages you can use a specific language version of the survey og feedback forum for each of the version of your website. You simply add a new website to your account for each version you have of your website. When you add a new website you simply choose the corresponding language of the website.

The UserReport administration interface is currently only available in English.
